TO HOST SPRING 2023 Meet
Please join us for a terrific Willys Overland Jeepster Meet, from 13-16 April 2023, in Historic Montgomery, Alabama, the cradle of the Confederacy and the birthplace of the Civil Rights movement! We will be staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites East Chase Parkway, located in an outdoor mall area with shops and restaurants. Reservations need to be made by March 30th 2023 to get the group rate of $104 plus tax. There is ample parking adjacent to the hotel for your tow vehicle and trailer. When you arrive, we will greet you in a Hospitality Room at the hotel to give you additional information packets. Every morning, there is complementary breakfast along with many other hotel amenities.
On Friday, 14 April, we will take a Jeepster Tour of 35 miles through scenic Alabama countryside to the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. There you will see a memorial hosted by the National Park Service to a group of American Airmen who overcame the cultural adversity of the day to serve their nation in World War II. Arriving back at the hotel area around lunchtime, a group of 16 people (first 16 to register can sign up) will motor over to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama for a tour of the facility that builds 1500 cars daily for the American market. The remainder of the group is free for the afternoon to drive the 10 miles to the downtown entertainment district for dinner at one of the many restaurants, or a Riverboat Dinner Cruise in the Harriott II Riverboat, or a fun-filled minor league baseball game with the Tampa Rays affiliate Montgomery Biscuits. You can also join your WOJC friends for a libation at the Aviator Bar. Little known fact: Montgomery Alabama was the site of the first flying school in 1910 with Wilbur and Orville Wright and a huge training area for pilots during WWII.
On Saturday, after breakfast at the hotel, we will motor back to downtown Montgomery to see the Rosa Parks Museum. Next, we will drive past the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church enroute to the Civil Rights Memorial. From there we will drive by the First White House of the Confederacy to the Alabama State capitol where we will see the place where Jefferson Davis was inaugurated as President of the Confederacy. Here there will be a photo opportunity in front with our Jeepsters! There will be lots to see and do in Montgomery, Alabama. You’ll be free until the evening banquet of Southern Fare courtesy of Martha’s Place, just a short ride from the hotel. There will still be time for a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game after dinner if you like.
Well, all good things must come to an end eventually and I’m sure with all the activities we have planned, though there will be some free time as well, you will be ready to settle in for a Sunday departure back home. We hope you will be inspired to join us in April, 2023!
