MEET report fall 2008 by Kathleen Sioui

Our fall meet was held in Asheville, NC on September 26 – 28. Attendees were greeted by long lines at the gas pumps in Asheville as we were suffering a short term gas shortage. Our spirits were undeterred though and the meet was a great success.

Friday morning we set out bright and early for pictures on the lawn of the Biltmore House. The Jeepsters looked great in front of the regal mansion. It rained off and on for most of the day, but we were still able to enjoy touring through the house, gardens, winery, and farm. I think everyone who hadn’t seen the Estate before was impressed with its size and beauty.

Saturday morning started a little later with a swap meet in the parking lot and time to admire the Jeepsters that were there. It was nice to see some new faces and some we hadn’t seen in a while. Midmorning we headed to the Asheville Visitor Center where we boarded trolleys for a tour of historic Asheville. Our tour guides regaled us with tales of famous and infamous Ashevillians of the past as well as the buildings and scenery around us. We spent the afternoon on our own sightseeing in the area.

Saturday night we had a wonderful dinner and a short and informative club meeting. Sunday morning we said our farewells and set out for home.

Thanks to everyone who came and helped make the meet a success. Thanks to Ed Gustkey for the hand made clock that was awarded to Reta Slaughter as a door prize. I’d like to extend a special thank you to my parents, Dick and Mary Ann Sioui, who were a big help during the weekend. They came to our spring meet in NY and had so much fun they decided to come to this one too.

See y’all in Dowagiac next spring!
